Southsea boating lake is a hugely popular attraction for all the family and it is only 100 yards from the Britannia Guest House. Being only a couple of feet deep it is child friendly although the very young are always in need of careful supervision around any depth of water. Hiring a small paddle boat is one option but there are a host of other free options as well from fishing for crabs, playing in the enclosed swing park with water spouts to jump through and get wet on a hot day or picnic on the spacious lawns, which includes shade under the many trees.
A little further afield, but still within 400 yards of our guest house, is the free admission Cumberland House Natural History Museum, tennis courts, crazy golf and a 9 hole pitch and put that can challenge the best of golfers. Alternatively you can watch a game of cricket, sun bathe on the beach or stroll around South Parade Pier, as well as fish off the end of the latter all with easy walking distance of our location in Granada Road, Southsea.
The main promenade area of Southsea sea front is 2 miles long but at the bus terminus opposite South Parade Pier, buses can quickly take your family to many more attractions along the sea front. Most popular with the children is the fair at Clarence Pier with rides and amusements for all ages.
Watching the hovercraft arrive and leave, you stand only yards away from them as they take off and land but behind protective glass screen, is an exciting and noisy adventure for every age and it is unique as well as free. Alternatively, experience the real thing and take your family on a hovercraft to visit the Isle of Wight, which is a great day out on its own, and even take the return journey on the slower, but less exhilarating ferry service back into Old Portsmouth. Ride back to our guest house on an open top bus and the day out will have been a fantastic experience for everyone. No doubt all of your family will sleep well that night.
